People in Hawaii are forming the Single Payer Party of Hawaii & running candidates to build a Health Care Cooperative.
Cooperatives are generally owned by their members, are structured as nonprofits and either own a system of health care providers or contract for medical services for their members. They often bring together primary care doctors, specialists and clinics and hospital staff. Many health care experts believe that such integrated systems offer the best hope for improving the quality of care and reducing costs.


The bipartisan Senate group, led by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the Finance Committee, plans to present its proposed health care bill by the end of next week.
Principles for a Consumer Cooperative
Health care cooperatives can work as private entities in a private market and give another choice to families, but they have to be done right. Here are several principles that must be a part of any co-op model:
•Cooperatives must be voluntary, open to individuals who choose to freely join together without coercion or restraint, and controlled by its members, not the government;
•Cooperatives must be viable on their own and must not receive anti-competitive government support in any form including assumption of risk, “start-up” capital, or continuous subsidies to the organization–which would turn them into government-preferred public plans;
•Health plans must be selected only by a co-op’s members, not the government;

they do not want to quit smoking.

They do not want to think about Eating right for their blood type,

or taking vitamin C hourly.

They do not want to exercise for 20 minutes every day.
And they do not want to die from cancer, but they will not do what is necessary to
prevent cancer or heart disease.

Eat more vegetables & drink only water. No coffee.
